Under the spring sun of southern Spain, the Andalusia Rally – Sierra Morena returns this weekend with the familiar promise of speed, precision and early-season ambition. Based in Córdoba, the rally opens the 74th season of the FIA European Rally Championship—the oldest international rally series—drawing crews from across the continent to a stage where expectations are as high as the temperatures.
There is something ceremonial about a season opener, but also something unforgiving. Thirteen asphalt stages, stretching just over 200 competitive kilometres, offer little room for hesitation. The roads around Córdoba are fast, technical, and deceptively smooth—demanding rhythm from the very first corner. It is here that titles do not get decided, but they can quietly begin to slip away.
All eyes fall naturally on reigning champion Miko Marczyk, who arrives intent on defending his crown, though the depth of the entry list suggests anything but a straightforward start. Local hopefuls, rising talents, and experienced contenders alike converge with the same objective: to seize early momentum in a championship that will cross Europe before concluding in autumn.
Yet beyond the names and numbers, the rally’s essence lies in its atmosphere. The hum of engines through narrow mountain roads, the echo of tires gripping warm tarmac, and the sense—shared by drivers and spectators alike—that a new story is just beginning. In Andalusia, the season does not simply start; it ignites.
