Historic Solberg claims Monte victory
Oliver Solberg held on to his lead all the weekend, and became historic, since he is now the youngest ever to win the Monte Carlo rally, and the first swede for 55 years. Solberg had a big lead coming into sunday, and said he wasn’t going to push too hard for maximum points, but rather keep the distance. Still he managed to be the fifth fastest on Super sunday, but only beaten by two WRC1 drivers, Elfyn Evans and Adrien Fourmaux, second and third fastest. The man fastest on sunday was Yohan Rossel, in the brand new Ypsilon from Lancia. The first stage winner on sunday was also a big surprise, Matteo Fontana in a Fiesta rally3 car, beating Yohan Rossel with 2,2 seconds. Fontana is the first Rally3 car ever to win a WRC stage.
